Taking my new shoes out on the road

I promise this will be the last post dedicated to my new shoes (Brooks Pure Cadence).  Today was the first time I took them outside for a run and I wanted to tell you about it.

I lied.  I can’t promise that it will be my last post about them.  I just love them so much.  I know it’s not good to be so attached to a belonging, but seriously these shoes are so cool.  I wore them yesterday for my workout with Mike and he was really jealous he didn’t have a pair of his own.  Though he was a bit sad that the color combination on my shoes was only available for the women.  OH, and they were terrific during my workout, good for treadmill sprints, squats, and even seemed better for burpees, the bane of my existence.

But the real test was running outside.  I headed for the park as usual.

My thoughts after a 3.5 mile run?  The shoes are terrific!  From the moment I first put them on the other night, I felt they offered great support (I have been wearing Mizuno Wave Nirvanas and liking them) and they just felt really comfortable and cushioned the way I like.  They were wonderful for the run, even though I am still pretty sore from the half on Sunday.  I am looking forward to testing them out this weekend for my long run (10 miles on the calendar).

The one issue I’ve had with the Mizunos is that one place on my right foot gets really calloused.  I am hoping that these new shoes avoid that issue.  It’s the same place that my sister gets a callous or blister, oddly.  I guess we’ll see!

I think Brooks should bring me on board as an ambassador for the new line.  These opinions are my own, and I paid FULL price for these shoes but I would gladly buy them at a discount.  I didn’t plan to buy shoes at the launch party, it just happened that way.

Big River Running posted some pictures of the launch party on their facebook page, and I wanted to share a few here for you to see—I didn’t take any of my own pictures because a) I felt silly and b) there was somebody already taking pictures.

These are the 8 different shoes they offer.  The men’s shoes are the lime green ones, Mike, if you are reading this.

The green is pretty cool too!

Lots of beautiful shoes stacked up against the wall.

They even had food!  I suppose it was a party.

Note that I am talking and Jen is laughing at me.  That seems about right.

Visit Big River Running’s website for more information about them.  One of the owners of the store, Ben, is a fabulous runner who won the MO Cowbell Half Marathon I ran in on Sunday. (Yes, won!).

Catuesday

I keep a folder on my computer desktop labeled "blog ideas."  (I may have mentioned this before.)  When I find something fun on the internet, or a friend sends me a neat picture, or maybe when I screen cap something, I put it into this folder for when I need inspiration to blog.

That would be tonight.  I’m tired.  I am not ready to write my half marathon recap.  I’m simply waiting for dinner to be ready (pasta! heating up in the oven, since I don’t have a microwave).

I just perused the folder.  The stuff left that I haven’t used is all cats.  I kid you not.  ALL CATS. (except the stuff for my half marathon recap.  okay.  technicality, right?)

What does that say about me?

Even better, I think most of it is cat stuff I’ve already used but thought was too awesome to move into the "done" folder.  As in, cats I thought you’d want to see again.

So here’s a few.  Enjoy!

You’re welcome.

Feels like Monday

I have a bad feeling about the next three months.  I just have this feeling I’m going to get stressed and overwhelmed over wedding planning.  I am suddenly aware that all these things we’ve been putting off NEED to happen soon, because the next three months are going to fly by…and before we know it, it’ll be January 2…

I think I found my wedding ring today though, and I’ve done a whole bunch of other stuff as well.  The best way to deal with stress is get stuff checked off the list, right?

People are really excited about our invitations.  I can’t wait to share them on the blog here, but I obviously want to wait until my guests receive them in the mail.  I also want to tell you about my fantastic designer (found her on etsy, but she lives right here in St Louis.)  Soon!!

I’m recovering from yesterday’s race.  By late last night I could barely walk at all—my right hip and knee hurt so much I was worried I’d injured myself.  But today I feel much better, in fact, both legs are equally sore and tired, which is totally strange.  Maybe all my stretching, rolling, and icing paid off.  Or the constant ibuprofen is paying off?  Either way, the human body is a marvelous thing.

I’m waiting to see if there are any photos from the race yesterday.  Right now there are two posted for me, but neither is actually me.  I remember one being taken coming down a hill but what looked to be an official photographer, but maybe not.  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

MO Cowbell Run Done

2:41:22

I wanted to keep a 12 minute mile pace, and I pretty much did that.  Had a little trouble after 10 miles, probably because I wasn’t as trained as I would have liked.  I’m pleased, even though I feel like I should be faster than I am.  I’ll get there.

Oh, and we get married in 3 months exactly!

Brooks Pure Cadence and MO’ Cowbell

(from the future, if you want to read more about my shoes, check out  my more recent post!)

It’s running weekend!  Last night I went to a running shoe launch party with Jen, and today I picked up my shoes.

Can you tell I love them?  Unfortunately I can’t test them out yet, because tomorrow is the MO’ Cowbell Run.  Obviously I will be wearing my Mizunos.

Potty like a rockstar pass, free shirt and buttons, and the side of my new shoe box in case you are super super interested.

New Running Shoes

I went to this with Jen.  She had gotten an email earlier in the week about the shoes and was interested.  I saw the event announcement on Facebook earlier in the day and we decided to pop in.  I told myself I wouldn’t buy new shoes.  But…

Yup, we both bought new shoes.  Then we were told we couldn’t take them home with us tonight and HAD TO COME BACK TOMORROW.

Blast.

They are AWESOME.  I kind of needed new running shoes anyway (well, arguable…but I will wear the crap out of them.)

I also got some little buttons and a free t-shirt.  AND I will get to "Potty like a rock star" at the Rock and Roll Half Marathon.

Yup.  I went to a running store party on Friday night.  That’s how I roll.
